St. Maria Goretti Mini Wooden Retablo
Maria Goretti Retablo - Patroness of Young Women, Abuse Victims, Forgiveness
Feast Day: July 6
Her family were poor farmers. They were living with an old man and his son near Rome. Maria’s father died. The son lusted after Maria, age 12, who was frightened by him. The son found her alone at the house one day. He approached her, threatening to kill her if she did not give in. She refused his advances. He stabbed her 14 times. She died the next day in the hospital.
Prayer at the back of the Retablo: "Holy Maria Goretti, intercede for us at the throne of Divine Mercy. May His healing powers come into our hearts and our lives. May we understand the sacredness of all human beings knowing we are made in GOD’s image. So too, let us be protected and live in peace."
A Retablo is a devotional painting derived from traditional Catholic Church Art, often on rectangular wooden board that illustrate holy images such as Christ, the Virgin Mary or Saints.
