St Anthony of Padua Mini Wooden Retablo
St Anthony Retablo - Finder of Lost Objects and Animals, Patron of Worthy Husbands, Women who Want Children, Orphans and Miracles.
St Anthony was born in Portugal in 1195 and died in 1231 at the age of 35. He became a Franciscan monk trained by St Francis himself. He was a very charismatic preacher bringing even the biggest sinner into the light. He was said to have radiated an unusual holiness.
A novice once borrowed his prayer book without asking but returned it after a "fearful apparition" overcame him. This is why St Anthony is patron of lost objects.
Prayer at the back of the Retablo: "O, Holy San Antonio, your love of god and charity for all his creatures made you worthy on earth to possess miraculous powers. I humbly ask of you to whisper my petition (you request) into the ear of the infant Jesus whom you so loved. My gratitude will be always yours."
A Retablo is a devotional painting derived from traditional Catholic Church Art, often on rectangular wooden board that illustrate holy images such as Christ, the Virgin Mary or Saints.
