St Francis of Assisi Mini Wooden Retablo
St. Francis of Assisi Retablo - Patron of Animals, Children, Kindness and Ecology
St Francis was born in 1181. Son of a wealthy cloth merchant, he renounced his family fortune, threw off his clothes and started the Franciscan Order. He laid down strict rules of poverty, humility and discipline. In 1224, while praying he received the stigmata.
St Francis's Prayer at the back of Retablo: "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love, where there is doubt, faith, where there is despair, hope, where there is darkness, light, and where there is sadness, joy. O divine master, Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love, for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born into eternal life."
A Retablo is a devotional painting derived from traditional Catholic Church Art, often on rectangular wooden board that illustrate holy images such as Christ, the Virgin Mary or Saints.
