St. Lucia is the Patroness of Writers and Martyrs; invoked as aid for blindness and eye trouble, against throat infection and epidemics.
 
Brave Lucia lost her life to the persecution of the Christians in the early 4th century. Legends tell of her eyes being put out, and then restored by God.
