Saint Luke was born in the city Antioch in Syria, a part of modern-day Turkey.  He did not personally know Jesus but was a disciple of St Paul.  St Luke wrote the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles.  He was the Evangelist who most wrote about the mysteries connected with the Blessed Virgin Mary:  the Annunciation with Archangel Gabriel, the Visitation to cousin St Elizabeth, the Birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.

St Luke is represented with a bull because he begins the Gospel by talking about Zechariah's sacrifice in the temple where the oxen were killed, in Jewish rituals.  St Luke is the patron saint of doctors, painters and artists.  His feast day is October 18th.

The Little Drops collectible statues series help your children, grandchildren or godchildren to learn about Jesus, Mary and the Saints.
