She was St. Benedict’s twin sister. At an early age, she entered a Benedictine convent for women. As a young abbess, she found real joy in the practice of, motto ora et labora (pray and work).
 
Prayer at the back of the Retablo: ‘Eternal God, by whose grace Scholastica became a burning and shining light for your people: give us the courage to prefer nothing to Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit help us to share patiently in his sufferings, that we may be able to rejoice forever in his kingdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord.’
